The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.”(Proverbs 16:9 ESV)A friend of mine who is a missionary in Belgium wrote this in an email
earlier this week,“I remember Derek Prince, a dear friend and early mentor, saying that the
most significant things that had happened in his life were unplanned and unanticipated.”My buddy, Dr. Dusty Reynolds, who is a Your Next Step board member, puts a southern spin on this concept when he says, “We back into more things than we plan.”
These events are known as serendipities. Joan and I have seen God’s fingerprints through the years as He has repeatedly led us when all we knew to do was the next thing. Moving to Myrtle Beach was one such occasion. I was interviewing with a local church in the Myrtle area that offered me a job. I resigned my church in Savannah, GA on a Sunday only to be told on Thursday of that week that the church decided to wait a year to make the hire. This news seemed devastating at the time, but paved the way for the birthing of Your Next Step Ministries.
What are you facing today that seems like the end of the road? What is
discouraging you? Ask God for a serendipity event. Ask Him to reveal His activity. His plan will outweigh the best idea you can come up with.Yielded,
Doug
